Leadership supports professional learning by implementing improvements in current practices of this element such as updated technology systems, educator input on professional development, and feedback to support professional learning goals set by staff. Staff have multiple opportunities to improve their professional practice by partnering with other educators within and outside of the school and through observations and evaluations. Some staff reported that they were unclear on the objectives of PD being offered and how it applied to their own content area and their needs. They were not sure how to apply some of their professional learning in their own classroom and said they would like to see some of the strategies presented in PD used in the classroom hands-on before they implement it for themselves
Staff do have access to a Google form so that they can state their preferences for potential PD. Teachers can use their Professional Growth plan in conjunction with admin feedback to guide development.
All professional development that is selected for staff is grounded in current research and falls under the district’s framework of goals and areas of growth. Admin makes an effort to provide PD that is relevant and applicable to the population of the district, including trauma-informed teaching strategies, whole brain learning, etc. Staff uses student academic and social-emotional data to inform the effectiveness of professional learning, and the school is seeing great results.
